DESCRIPTION:Express your interest in attending a learning and development retreat on the traditional lands of the Bunurong people. \nConnect with carers and hear from presenters during an engaging two-day conference program. Catering\, all retreat sessions and overnight accommodation will be provided complimentary. A $200 voucher will be provided to carers at the retreat\, in recognition of potential travel and childcare costs. \nVenue: Peppers Moonah Links Resort \nAddress: 55 Peter Thomson Dr\, Fingal\, Mornington Peninsula\, 3939 \nDates: Saturday 3 – Sunday 4 May 2025 \nIf you are a Victorian home-based kinship carer (statutory or non-statutory) please fill register your interest by 26 February 2025. Selection will be via a random ballot with Carer Kafe targets considered. Please note that biological and adoptive parents are not eligible to apply. \nWhile preference will be given to those who have not attended a Carer Kafe Learning and Development retreat in the last 12 months\, those who have attended previously can also apply. More than one adult member per carer household can also apply\, however preference will be given to individuals to attend. \nOn 28-29 June 2025 a Learning and Development Retreat for Carers of First Nations Children will be held in Lancefield.

Level 5/50 Market Street\, Melbourne \nCarers will discuss topics such as: adolescent development and its impact with mental illness\, the signs and symptoms of the common mental health problems that young people face\, where and how to get help when a young person is developing a mental illness\, what sort of help has been shown by research to be effective\, and how to provide first aid in crisis situations. \n3 years Accreditation will be available for carers who successfully complete the course and choose to undertake the Accreditation Assessment. This is done post-course and will be explained at the workshop in more detail. \nThe course content and discussions may cause some distress and discomfort\, and significant triggers warning will be in place within the course. \nThis course has been developed by Mental Health First Aid Australia and will be delivered by AJ Williams-Tchen an award-winning Wiradjuri Mental Health Social Worker\, Nurse & Youth Worker. For the past 30 years AJ has been working at providing awareness of mental illness within the Aboriginal community and increasing mental health literacy among all Australians. \nThe session is designed for kinship\, foster and permanent carers.
