SUMMARY:Youth Mental Health First Aid
DESCRIPTION:14 Hours (across 2 consecutive days) Face-to-face training in Melbourne – Carers need to attend both days to complete the course. \nDate: Friday 16 AND Saturday 17 May 2025 \nTime: 9:00am to 5:00pm – Lunch provided \nType of training: Face-to-face \nAddress: Centre for Excellence in Child and Family Welfare. Level 5/50 Market Street\, Melbourne \nCarers will discuss topics such as: adolescent development and its impact with mental illness\, the signs and symptoms of the common mental health problems that young people face\, where and how to get help when a young person is developing a mental illness\, what sort of help has been shown by research to be effective\, and how to provide first aid in crisis situations. \n3 years Accreditation will be available for carers who successfully complete the course and choose to undertake the Accreditation Assessment. This is done post-course and will be explained at the workshop in more detail. \nThe course content and discussions may cause some distress and discomfort\, and significant triggers warning will be in place within the course. \nThis course has been developed by Mental Health First Aid Australia and will be delivered by AJ Williams-Tchen an award-winning Wiradjuri Mental Health Social Worker\, Nurse & Youth Worker. For the past 30 years AJ has been working at providing awareness of mental illness within the Aboriginal community and increasing mental health literacy among all Australians. \nThe session is designed for kinship\, foster and permanent carers.
