SUMMARY:Emotional Intelligence and the importance of emotion coaching kids in care – Part 1
DESCRIPTION:Thursday 20 February \n10 am – 12.30 pm \nOnline \nThis session\, presented by Joanie Bartolo from Emotion Wise\, explores emotional intelligence and offers support for carers by providing a brief introduction of kids in care\, trauma and the key principles from Tuning in to Kids®\, a parenting program that aims to provide helpful ways of responding to young people’s emotions\, and help children learn important skills of emotional intelligence. The presentation has been tailored to the Out of Home Care community (inclusive of all carers) and focuses on the emotional connection between carers and children. \nIt is useful for carers of children and young people of all ages and offers: \n– A brief introduction to the key principles from Tuning in to Kids® and Tuning in to Teens® \n– a focus on the emotional connection between carers and children \n– skills in emotion coaching including recognising\, understanding and responding to children’s emotions in an accepting\, supportive way \nJoanie Bartolo is the Principal Consultant at Emotion Wise. She is a qualified social worker and an accredited Tuning in to Kids® and Tuning in to Teens® practitioner. Joanie has worked with children and families for 25 years and has been a consultant for over 10 years. She has a particular passion for working with children who have experienced trauma and believes in fostering the relationship between children and their families. \nThis is session 1 of a 2-part series. You may do session 1 on its own (Thursday 20 February) or choose to register for session 2 as well (Thursday 13 March). Please note that you must do session 1 in order to continue with session 2.

DESCRIPTION:Wednesday 12 February \n10.00am – 11.30am \nZoom online \nJoin Michael Place for a 90-minute session designed to support carers in identifying and building resilience traits in children and young people. \nAs a result of participating in this training\, you will \n\nBe able to identify and promote resilience traits in young people\nHelp young people become the best versions of themselves\nFeel better prepared for your caring responsibilities.\n\nAfter spending time in foster care himself\, Michael dedicated his research to uncover what created positive outcomes for young people during and after care. Fostering resilience is a combination of his personal story and his professional findings in positive psychology research. Carers can expect to learn powerful evidence-based insights through a narrative lens. At the end of the session\, Carers will complete a “Fostering Resilience Check List” to support their day-to-day resilience building activities. \nThe session is designed for kinship\, foster and permanent carers.
